Red Lori, Uh, I mean…Red Lory

October 29, 2012

See that beauty of a book?

The release date for Red Lory by Dave Newell is finally upon us~ Friday, November 2nd!

I had the pleasure of editing this book.

It is so unique, so simple, yet profound…

A walk into another time.

There is beauty, even though loneliness drips off the pages…

The story of Dare, Douglas, Mrs. King and Donnie will grip you.

You must read it.

Leave a comment on this post and I’ll gift three copies on Friday by 9 PM!

Until then, go like Dave’s author page on Facebook.

Really, it’ll be fun, go ahead.

Oh, and Dave’s interviewing me on his blog today~please go check it out and say something nice.

He needs some Girly Muse love.

PLUS, it has a must-see dodgeball scene!

TFEiC

October 5, 2012

It’s been hard to settle down after such an exciting weekend~ I went to an Indie book event last weekend and met a ton of new friends. A lot of these friends are ones I’ve been talking to through writing groups on facebook, so I felt I already knew so many of them. It was great to finally meet in Real Life.

Did you know Tosha is a book blogger now? She is! She’s part of the panel of The Indie Bookshelf. You should check it out. They get the skinny on all the new books coming out~ definitely a blog to bookmark. Plus, Tosha looks really pretty in the cover picture. ;)

So…Tosh and I set out on the road~ she was just as I excited as I was to meet some of the bloggers she’s been working with, not to mention all the great authors. And you know, anytime we get together, there will be fun and hilarity non-stop. Whether we mean for there to be or not…

I’m so happy we’re doing this together, my sisterfriend…

Bright and early…

The trees were in outstanding colorful display…

The weather was perfect. Downtown Chicago was stunning. I’ve been there several times, but have never seen this side of Chicago. Gorgeous. I wish I’d had more time to really explore (and see some dear friends who live there), but it was jam-packed every minute.

This is one of the prettiest skies I’ve ever seen in my life…took my breath away.

Tarryn Fisher, author of The Opportunist, and Rebecca Donovan, author of The Breathing Series

The foursome of the weekend:

Tarryn, Trish, Moi and Tosha~ otherwise known as The Three T’s and Me

A most delicious burger~ with a buttered bun…I want one of these right about now.

Or this would also suffice…

Oh my goodness, it was delicious.

These two were a hoot together.

And of course, me and my girl. I do love her so.

Meeting some of my posse: Maggi Myers (her book will be out soon!), Andrea Randall, author of Ten Days of Perfect, and Melissa Brown, author of Bouquet Toss

Dear, sweet girls…

And more wonderful people~ Nina, Jamie and Andrea~ everybody scrunch and smile!

And I’ve long wanted to meet Fred, a former lawyer and now librarian and book blogger of Still Seeking Allies…

Fred was just as delightful and charming as I imagined. He has this way of making everyone feel like they’re his most favorite person in all the world. Long live Fred’s Baker’s Dozen!

I live to make her laugh…see below.

;)

Okay, let’s try this again…

Melissa helped organize this event, along with Sarah Hansen from Okay Creations, and Colleen Hoover, author of Slammed and Point of Retreat

I’m wishing I had pictures of Sarah and Colleen…sniff. This is right before the chaos.

Melissa is a dolly.

And so is Maggi.

I can’t wait for Dirty Red to be out~ Dec. 28th. Mark your calendars.

Tarryn received some sweet gifts from the people who love her book~ look at this cupcake with The Opportunist cover! I love it! I did want to eat it really, really bad, but managed to refrain.

And then there was this gift, which shall remain nameless, but gave us a very good laugh…

Discussing Dave Newell’s Book~ Red Lory, due out Nov. 2nd.

And Tracey Garvis-Graves~ I had the privilege of meeting her briefly in Minneapolis at E.L. James’ signing two weeks ago and then, for this event, I helped with Tarryn’s table and Tracey was next to us. She is the nicest person ever. Her book, On the Island, is SO good. MGM has optioned the book for a movie~ can’t wait for that!

Tarryn, showing off my jewelry…uh, I mean, Colleen Hoover’s autograph.

My flash gave out the night before, so an entire night of pictures has a halo of light taking over the entire picture. So sad. But that would have made for an even longer post. ha!

Saying good-bye is hard to do.

That’s Happy in the front, on the right…love that girl.

Awww. I don’t like good-byes.

An unforgettable time. Thanks, everyone, for making it so special. Can’t wait to see you all again.

*Extra love notes…

I didn’t get pictures of everyone, but every single person I met was so great. Some authors I LOVE who were also there:

S.C. Stephens, author of Thoughtless and Effortless and many more… (sweetest person and creator of Kellan Kyle, oh my word!)

C.J. Roberts, author of Captive in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark (I love this woman.)

Michelle Mankin, author of Love Evolution and the upcoming, Love Revolution (Dreamy kind and lovely person~so glad we were able to hang out, Michelle!)

Abbi Glines, author of The Vincent Brothers and many more… (Sweet lady! I have to read her books still! Very fun to talk to)

J. Sterling, author of Chance Encounters and more… (Oh this girl. She’s a hoot. Looking forward to the next time.)

Jillian Dodd, author of That Boy and many more…(She’s one of the few I didn’t meet~ we were on opposite sides of the building and the throngs of people divided us. Sigh.)

Next time, I shall meet all the rest that I didn’t even mention here. XOXO, lovely people!

Boutique Crawl

April 12, 2012

Three weeks from today~ Thursday, May 3rd from 5:30-9:00 PM~ I will be part of a boutique crawl in downtown Prior Lake. The Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop!

Greyley and I were part of the last Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop and had such a great time that we were excited when Cate invited us again. I wasn’t even sure where Prior Lake was located and found myself pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t too far from my house. The town is so cute and for this next event, the downtown shops are going to be as much a part of the evening as the vendors lining the streets. Hopefully the weather will be perfection and we will make new friends and shop ’til we drop.

I’ll give you a little reminder about it in a couple of weeks. Greyley and I would love to see some familiar faces. We’ve got lots to do between now and then. There’s jewelry and headbands to be made, folks! We both have a good amount of inventory going already, but it seems we always get inspired with some NEW HAREBRAINED IDEAS OF FABULOUSNESS at the very last minute before every new show. What will it be this time? I’m scared to even let my mind go there…but there’s still time…a little bit of precious time…

Cate is featuring us today on her blog for the upcoming event. For more details, you can also check out the Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop Facebook page…and while you’re on Facebook, why don’t you visit my new Girly Muse Facebook page too. Feel free to “LIKE” it! It will come in handy one day, I promise.

Since today seems to be Happy Link Day~ I may as well add a few more, so you can click to your heart’s content. Greyley made it through the first round of speeches at her school for the Optimist International Oratorical Contest. It’s an honor and we’re tickled pink for her. This morning, she will go through another round. As soon as she is finished, we’re off to sing/play with the ABC Youth Choir at Concordia. Tonight, I will be attending the Madame Butterfly Blogger Preview night. Maybe I will see some of you lovely bloggers there.

Have a glorious Thursday. XO

A Little Barn, A Little Fashion, Part 2

July 26, 2011

I’ve been excited to see Mari’s pictures from Saturday’s Minnesota Fashion Blogger Meetup and she did not disappoint. You can find more great pictures from our day together on her blog. Take a look at some of her lovely photographs…

The barn looks so much better with pretty ladies in it!

I heart hydrangeas.

This is the fabulous Megan, who came up with this great idea…

And this is Cate…I feel like I already know her from her blog, Wild Ruffle. I’m excited to be part of her pop-up shop this fall. Will let you know more about that later!

So many sweet and interesting women right here in my state…I look forward to seeing them again. I was nervous because I only knew Mari and Jill, but the barn was abuzz with chatter in no time. Everyone was so down to earth.

Here we are!

I was scared to even put up this picture because I wanted to list everyone’s name and blog, but I just got too confused. PLEASE let me know who I’ve left out. I know of at least 2 that I’m missing and have tried all afternoon to find them on this here WORLD WIDE WEB. See…we HAVE to meet again so I can keep everyone’s names straight! Thanks again for a lovely afternoon, bloggers! XO

A Little Barn, A Little Fashion, Part 1

July 25, 2011

I wish I looked as alert as these guys this morning.

It was a FUN weekend.

Busy.

Tiring.

Bugs were involved.

Good food.

Music, music, music.

Cleaning.

A barn full of fashion bloggers. The irony, I know…

I’ll have to tell you more about the fabulous ladies later, as I get pictures…

But let’s just start here…

Jill so graciously offered to help get my barn ready for a MN Fashion Bloggers’ Event, put together by the lovely Megan. I’m not quite sure how I landed this honor of even being invited, since I’m not completely a “fashion” blogger…although I do love me some fashion. (!!!) But I am so glad I was a part of this event.

Back to the barn…it is a barn and it is full of gross things. So that’s always an adventure in getting it ready for an event. Eek! There were plenty of squeals throughout the day from all of us, as bugs, toads and mysterious things ran past…or simply lay dead, waiting to be suctioned through the vacuum. Ewww.

Midway through…

I love these Instagram pictures by Jillie. (That beanbag HAD to GO.)

My little helpers…

Indigo’s camera smile. :)

And my little soon-to-be teenager…

While we were working, the helicopter came and sprayed our wetlands. It is SO exciting when that happens. He swoops wayyyyy down low and it may be toxic, but I cannot resist standing on the bridge and waving my guts out.

Was it ever a hot day. I didn’t know I could sweat like that. Sorry, not a lovely topic, but SERIOUSLY. I am so happy for the warmth, though, I can’t complain. However, I did want to jump into some water in a big way.

If you’d like some exercise, come take a walk up this driveway. Take a left at the top and then you get to go up another one!

So, this is the pretty part of the barn…

The only problem is that it’s upstairs, so it’s even HOTTER than downstairs. There’s couches in front of the stage and where I pictured the ever so fashionable bloggers all hanging out…but it was HOT, so that didn’t really happen. It didn’t matter, the conversation was flowing freely once we all came out of our introverted blogger selves…

To be continued…
