Coffee Photos

June 8, 2012

My new friend, Alyssa, came over for coffee last week~ I have a regular coffee date with a few girls every Thursday morning~ and she brought her fabulous camera skills along! She’s a professional photographer and I am enjoying catching up and seeing all her beautiful pictures on her website.

She featured a few of us on her blog…to see some of the fun pictures, click HERE.

And since you’re so nice to read Girly Muse, I’ll give you a sneak peek…

Thanks, Alyssa! You perfectly captured our fun day. XO

Lovair Vs. Miss Middle of the Road Cuisinart

October 19, 2011

Early morning good-byes…

I love people that can come into your life and make it better each and every time they’re around. People that you can be completely yourself around even if it’s been almost a year since you’ve been together…Staci is that person for me and my family and we’re grateful for her.

I always have to give her kudos too, because without her I never would have thought to start a blog.

Peet’s coffee is a strong theme in our time together…she brings it fresh from her local shop in California and Mmmm, it is my favorite. Speaking of Peet’s…I’m having some right now as I type this…

We had some adventures with the Peet’s this weekend. My new coffeepot~ can I just say I am reminded on a regular basis that she is no Melitta? You know, my Lovair? (Go ahead and take a minute to read these posts if you needed further proof that I’m loony.) Anyway, now we’ve tried to move on from Melitta and even Cheap White…to Miss Middle of the Road Cuisinart. I’ve been so nonplussed by her that I haven’t even come up with a good nickname. Yes, she’s kind of pretty, but so are bumblebees.

Staci brought some delightful Peet’s and since the last time she was here I’ve added Middle of the Road Cuisinart. Staci has been here through the Melitta years AND the Cheap White, so she didn’t realize Miss Middle of the Road was here and that the Miss grinds beans…so Staci brought it ground this time~ very finely ground~ upon assurance it would be fine. Well, I was so excited about this, I promptly placed those heaping tablespoonfuls into the grinder like I usually do with the beans and let her go at it. Well, dear Miss M of the R didn’t know what to do with that~ I was supposed to put them in the filter. So all that came out was clear water. No problem, Staci switched them over to the filter and added a few more scoops…the next thing we knew, the countertop was overflowing with coffee that looked like a thick dark chocolate river.

We finally got it worked out, although I was lamenting the waste of good Peet’s, sniff. We enjoyed a RICH brew that morning that was delicious.

A couple of days later when I had my Monday morning coffee lovelies over, I heaped those spoonfuls in again, forgetting that Staci said to do 4 scoops (2 Tbsp each) instead of 8. When she came into the kitchen, there was the dark chocolate river again, working its magic on my floor and counter tops.

Again, I was not so sad about the mess, but that 8~ EIGHT HEAPING SCOOPS (16 tablespoons)~ of Peet’s was wasted. Moan.

She’s looking at me now…Miss M of R…in a slightly mocking way, judging me for my over-indulgence. Oh, how I miss Melitta. And Staci. (Not in that order, of course.)

One Day at a Time

June 6, 2011

I’m feeling behind with pretty much everything. There’s laundry (always) to do, rooms to clean, jewelry to be finished, things to be shipped, paragraphs to write, background vocals to be recorded, graduation cards to mail, end-of-the-year parties to help with, an overgrown yard that needs tending, sleep beckoning me and fun to be had.

Speaking of sleep, I have greatly decreased my coffee intake and…it has greatly increased my desire for sleep. Mint tea just does not give me the same pep. I stopped drinking it a few months ago when I had the flu and since I’d already gone through 3 days of intense headaches and had been reading about how vitamins don’t always get fully absorbed with coffee (and the amounts of cream and sugar I like), I decided to go all the way. I figured since I was having to take insane amounts of Vit D for the next year due to a severe deficiency, maybe I’d try to also get healthier with my nutrition. I went off coffee (and half off sugar) cold turkey for the next month and a half. Oh, was that ever an adjustment. I drank mint tea here and there, but it didn’t do anything to soften the withdrawals. I decided that I didn’t want to be so addicted.

I’m telling you this since I have detailed my great love…remember Melitta?

Here I am a few months later…

I drink coffee once in a while, with cream only. For those of you who know how I love my coffee, you know this is MAJOR. ha!

I think I might have some with sugar today.

All this talk about it makes me want some…

So the desire is not gone. However, my affair with Coke might be ended once and for all. I tried a sip the other day and had to give it to Nate. It tasted so weird.

I do hope THAT addiction will be over…

Now the coffee one…not so convinced just yet. The Vitamin D does seem like it is finally working now…maybe now that it’s made its way into my system, a little coffee won’t stop the flow…yes?

After all, I have things to do! Things to get DONE! A pot of coffee and who knows how much I could accomplish?

Fun Times in Excess

June 18, 2010

I’m excited to have breakfast this morning.

Staci came in night before last. Fun times have already been had…I’m anticipating more of it as the days continue. Every visit with Staci feels like my soul is being fed…each time better than the last. I treasure her friendship so very much.

We’re meeting our friend, Christa, this morning at Nina’s for a late breakfast. Christa is our writer, movie critic, coffee-loving friend. I’ve never had the honor of being with both Staci and Christa at the SAME time, even though Staci is the one who introduced me to Christa. It will be nice to have them in the same room. I suspect lots of chatter. I’m looking forward to all of it.

Nina’s is a fabulous place. If you live near St. Paul or ever visit, you must go. It’s a delightful coffee shop with EXCELLENT food, not to mention coffee! Another bonus: Garrison Keillor owns a quaint bookstore downstairs from Nina’s…Common Good Books.

Besides being elated that Staci was coming and cleaning house (my house is thanking me!), I have been making necklaces like crazy…wanna see a few?

Ok, so that’s cool, but look! The back is a mirror. Awww. Just a little thing I did with my SOLDERING GUN. (New best friend.)

For those critical “Check Your Teeth” moments.

Or there’s this one…

Or this…

And for something completely different…

And that’s about as much fun as I can stand!

Have a glorious weekend, everyone! Come back Monday and I’ll tell you something exciting.

A BAD Break-Up

March 26, 2010

Do you remember my Lovair?

Melitta

It is with a sad and broken heart that I tell you the awful news: Melitta and I have broken up.

I have never stopped loving her. I don’t think I ever will. I’m trying to work it out in my head and figure out where we went wrong. I think she first got miffed when I was washing her basket and sorta kinda dropped it, chipping the bottom just a little. I thought we’d worked it out. I was really sorry and thought she forgave me~ I thought she was coming around…but then I was washing her carafe one day and there, in my hands, she just decided to readjust her handle and popped all out of place.

It was bad. It was really bad. I could hardly make her fit in her spot. She kept making beautiful, perfect coffee for me, though, so I was lulled into a false sense of security.

However…one terrible day, the handle to her carafe pulled out even more.

Please don’t do this to me, I cried!

Don’t tell her, but I went online to see if maybe I could get a new carafe…you know, give her a little update. I’m no plastic surgeon, but I thought she’d be pleased with her little makeover. Here’s where she started getting bitter~ there ARE no replacement parts for this particular model.

Oh you want to play that way, huh, Melitta. I thought I knew you.

For a while there, it looked like we might not make it! One day, things would be fine; the next, it would be like pulling teeth to get anything out of her. Finally, I was able to maneuver her handle just so…she was actually fitting quite well again…what a relief! Still deceived, I thought everything was going to be OK.

One morning, I went to push her sweet button to grind & brew.

Nothing.

Nada.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Shocked and dismayed, I stumbled to my computer to go on the rebound. If she wouldn’t have me, I’d find another!

But if you’ll remember…I got Melitta on SALE.

REALLY on SALE.

I didn’t realize HOW on SALE until I got a notice from Amazon saying Melitta was on SALE for $150, regularly $250.

I got MY Melitta for $50.

Oh, Melitta!!! You ought to be ashamed of yourself! I am appalled.

You better be glad you were in Tuesday Mornings or you would have never set foot in THIS house.

I’ve resorted to brewing in the slums again. Cheap white 12-cup pot that makes mediocre coffee. NO automatic shut-off. I know this because last night at supper I realized I hadn’t rinsed out the coffeepot. Oh, what is that burned coffee doing on the bottom of the carafe? Why, the coffeemaker is still ON!!! After 11 hours!!!

Melitta just looked at me. I told you so, she mocked, as she blinked the temperature for the next 5 days.

I’m still not sure what she meant by that.

At least Cheap White MADE my coffee, Melitta. Cheap White actually wants to do her part. Take that.

Melitta had nothing to say.

It is OVER.
