Red Carpet Stories

August 16, 2010

Last night was the big event we’ve been working toward for a while now…the movie premiere of Wildflower…

It was such a fun night.

I don’t have all the pictures in yet, but will give you a little sneak peek at a couple shots…

The theater…I have a few stories…might have to save some of them to not bombard you all at once…but oh, some good stories.

It was not without hitches, but I guess that is to be expected. As I was driving over to Minneapolis around 4:45 for the 6:30 event, I got a call that someone had driven by and the marquee said, “Wildfire” instead of “Wildflower”…just little things like that to add to the EXCITEMENT.

They’d also mentioned a red carpet and we said, sure, that would be kinda fun. So while the guests were lining up outside to get in, they slapped that 7 foot red carpet out and began duct-taping it to the ground…and vacuuming.

You read that right, the red carpet was all of 7 feet long, if that…

If you have seen the trailer or any part of the movie, you just know how fitting this is for the whole affair.

Here we are with Jonathan, my partner in crime, on that very carpet…

We were blessed with the most beautiful day~ the temperature was a perfect 74 degrees. The auditorium filled up (I think we had 2 open seats~ it was full!) and everyone was so kind and excited. I was thrilled and humbled that so many people came. It was wonderful.

Everyone laughed in all the right places…whew. We got great feedback.

There are still things that need to be fixed and I’ll probably feel that way forever, but…will get back to it in another month when Jonathan is in town again.

I’m so grateful for all my friends who agreed to do this, both the ones on screen and the ones off, because it affected all of them. :) They’re so sweet to go along with whatever scheme I’m cooking at the time and I appreciate that so much. We have such fun in the process!

And my family…they’re good to put up with me too.

Courtney came over and did our hair in the afternoon~ wish you could see the back of mine~ it was pretty. She did Greyley’s hair too and when we got home and were getting ready for bed, Greyley said, “I’m afraid my hair is gonna stab me in my sleep.”

I know two girls who are gonna have to wash some hairspray out today…

Show Time!

August 5, 2010

It’s movie time around here again. Jonathan is back and we’re hard at work doing the final touches to our movie. Yesterday we went to the Suburban World Theatre and got all excited about showing it there. What a fun, quirky and beautiful place. Built in 1927, you feel like you’re in a Spanish Courtyard~ there’s even sparkly stars in the ceiling. Pictures don’t do it justice.

We’re going to be showing the movie on Sunday, August 15th. It will be a fun night of hugging friends, seeing movie stars, music…and, of course, watching the movie. There is a cash bar right smack dab in the middle of the theater, in case you feel the need for a Red Bull or some other fancy concoction while watching the show.

If you live in or near the Twin Cities, I hope you’ll come out. It would be best if you’d  get your ticket ahead of time from Paypal, so we can have the theater set up JUST for you.

6:30-9:30 PM on Sunday, August 15th is when all the fun will take place. Tickets are $10 each. You will be happy you came. XO

Let me show you the trailer one more time…

Click below to get your tickets!!! Just bring your receipt as your ticket! :)

First Screening

June 1, 2010

It seems there is so much to tell you…I don’t even know where to begin…

I’ll start with last night…

We had the cast over to watch Wildflower, the movie I just completed with Jonathan Thulin and our lovely friends. We have BREATHED this film for a concentrated 4 week stretch. It was just 4 weeks ago that Jonathan flew into MSP and 3 weeks ago that our camera came in and 2 weeks ago that we were in the thick of filming and 1 week ago that we began editing until our  eyeballs hurt and my backside grew into the chair…all the way up to last night when we watched the film start to finish…about 30 of us in our living room.

The movie is exactly 94 minutes long. If I still bit my nails, I would have been biting. Fortunately my Mama put that yucky clear polish on my nails when I was a kid that helps you stop biting your nails and it took…

It was a stress-induced, nerve-racked, excitement-on-overload kind of night. Would they laugh? Would they be proud of it? Would they think it was good? Real? Quality?

We explained before we watched that there were still things in the works, more editing fixes to be done, etc., but that the film was close to how we want it.

Everyone was lovely. They laughed in the funny spots, enjoyed the music, and hung in there during the more serious scenes. I was watching with everyone else and then had to step away and watch from the back…it became too hard to wonder what everyone was thinking. When it was over, though, no one left me guessing. Everyone REALLY loved it and told their favorite parts.

Whew.

Now to perfect it and get this baby out there.

Makes my heart start pounding all over again…

Tomorrow…onto other topics…

Stumbilibrium

May 25, 2010

I just made up that word. I’m liking it. What do you think?

My brain is tired. I’m in that stumble-y, offset equilibrium, bleary-eyed kind of way. Do you know what I mean?

Stumbilibrium

When I’m tired, I have to be careful driving because my depth perception just seems a TOUCH off. Oh dear, I’m going to give my Mama a whole new set of things to pray about for me now. Sorry, Maxwella. I’ll be careful, I promise.

We’ve begun the editing stages of the movie. We’ve been so blessed to be able to use the computer lab at Northwestern College~ one of the professors there is good friends with one of our actors in the film and he so graciously said we could use the lab as much as we wanted. How great is that?!

So 10 1/2 hours later, my bohunkus (that’s my rear end, in case you were wondering) is tired. I sat ALL. DAY. LONG. We made good progress. Jonathan is doing the hard work. I am sitting there giving my praise, criticism, attitude, opinion and blunt sassiness. I’m making it sound bad. We actually work very well together. We’re so excited, we just about can’t stand it.

It’s been amazing how things have just worked throughout this process. The things we’ve needed have come into place, everyone has been so kind and cooperative and although I will be relieved when it is done, I’ll also be sad.

One of my (many) favorite parts about making this movie is that I wanted it to have the Minnesota/Northern flair, but I didn’t want it to have the phony over-the-top accents that all the movies “doing Minnesotan” have. What is so cool is that there are a few of the actors that have THE most perfect Northern accent~ I couldn’t have asked for better. And then I’m still in there to throw in a little Southern flair. It’s always nice to try to make everyone happy. ;) Either that or it will just confuse everyone in a big way.

Another favorite thing has been learning to work with the elements~ be it wind, rain, heat…actor coming late or not showing up at all…you name it, it happened during the making of this film. It hasn’t deterred us though. We either are very spontaneously creative on the spot or we are very, VERY dumb. Most likely, we’re a little of both. Or a lot. Ha!

I warned you I was tired. You could have stopped reading then.

One negative…OK, two negative things…Oh, alright, alright, THREE negative things to tell you…

1) I have not gotten nearly enough sleep. Oh, I said that already, didn’t I. The whole Stumbilibrium bit…

2) I have gained 4.5 pounds in the making of Wildflower. Maybe that’s what is affecting my Stumbilibrium…

3) I am going to have to do a serious detox to get over my severe caffeine addiction after this. It’s gotten out of hand, folks. I’m giving myself one more week of crazy drinking (Coca-Cola & Coffee) and then I will have to slash it by about 99%. That’s going to be a sad day. Until then, if you’re in the Roseville area at any time today, perhaps you’d bring me an ice cold Coke? I’ll give you a sneak peek of the film and make you laugh…enticing, right?!

To end on a positive note…editing all day has done wonders for my Twitter life. We’re surrounded by computers, so during the slow times, I may or may not have tweeted a little…or a lot. Feel free to keep me company on there today.

Trailer for “Wildflower”

May 19, 2010

I’m so excited…this is a trailer for my upcoming film with my friend, Jonathan Thulin. Here’s the scoop…

We began writing a movie more than a year ago. We met every day for a couple months and got SO close to finishing the script. But then Jonathan got married, went to Sweden, things got complicated and we didn’t have the time to get that movie exactly how we wanted it.

We knew we wanted to get to work on our movie when he came back to Minnesota sometime this spring, but didn’t feel like we had the time (or money) to make our movie just how we’d envisioned it. So we decided just recently to first do a Mockumentary (Definition: a film or television program that is shot like a documentary but is fictitious. That’s for you, Loren. :) )…about a music competition. Jonathan is a music extraordinaire and you know I love me some music. Thus, Wildflower was born.

We’ve been filming for the past week and a half, mostly at my place, which has been really fun. The actors (our friends) have been AMAZING. They have listened to our brief outlines and just gone with whatever we asked. Their improvisation has been hysterical to watch.

Check it out. You’ll see some friends, I’m sure. Help spread the word. Watch the clip on youtube, leave comments and share with your friends. The more the word gets out, the better chance the movie will have.

Grogadonia

May 17, 2010

Could it possibly be morning already?

I did about four too many things this weekend…and still missed out on some great things. There were parties I wanted to go to, people I wanted to see, and sleep I wanted to reconnect with…

The garage sale was great on Friday…Saturday, not so much. I am always shocked when I do any sort of event/sale type thing that Saturday is just not a good day to get a nice turnout. I’m not sure why that is, but I think I should know this by now and go with it. Is Saturday a great day for sales where you live? Here the big day is Thursday, then Friday…

I sold about an SUV load and a half, took a carload to Goodwill, and have about 2 more loads to account for now. Ugh. I took a picture, but it didn’t capture how GRAND the garage sale looked. You’ll just have to imagine it~ there was a LOT of stuff.

In between every crevice, we filmed the movie. Friday night, Saturday night, and tons on Sunday were filled with that and we’ll continue filming this week, until we have to return the camera. It’s going to be pure silliness, but there are times we wheeze, laughing so hard. I’ll tell you more about it when I’m not so groggy.

My brain still hasn’t woken up this morning.

There was also a little girl who had a funky temperature and sore throat. She’s doing much better, although I have a feeling her brain is going to take a while to wake up this morning too.

Of course, there are things like laundry and cleaning and taking care of other precious children that need to be done.  Nate and the kiddos are hanging in there, but I’m going to owe them some extra loving care when this month is over.

My toes also need some attention.

And so does my closet.

It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Garage Sale!

May 14, 2010

This is where I’ll be today. Garage Sale! Will put a picture up on here in a little while so you can see it in all its GLORY!

There is SO much to tell you, I don’t even know where to begin. Have I told you I’m making a movie with my friend, Jonathan Thulin? We’re doing a mockumentary about a music competition. It’s called “Wildflower.” Sigh. I’m so excited about it. I’ve had a major ulcer over it, but today, I had so much fun that I’m fully excited now. We began filming this week and yesterday (thank the Lord for the rain!) we laughed until we hurt…I am playing Hazel AND Darcy Dunn.

Oh, the intrigue. I can’t wait to tell you more about it. It’s going to be so funny.

But. Today. Garage. Sale. Focus.

Say a prayer that I will sell many, many things so as to FUND this baby.
