Last Hurrah

April 23, 2010

Tonight is The Burning Sage Galleries‘ last hurrah in our current location. It’s been a quick, but fun little trip in the shop. We knew the place was for sale all along and knew it was a temporary thing, so it’s not too much of a shock. We’ve enjoyed our time there and look forward to see what is next.

I will be putting a few of the different vendors’ things in my shop on this website pretty soon…and you never know, maybe we’ll have a new location up and running in no time.

There is a nice selection of musicians from the Twin Cities that will be performing tonight~ Matthew Griswold, Andrew Brown, Troi Atkinson, Ashleigh Still, Christopher Lawrence, Davis Wilder, and Carl Franzen…and I have a feeling even more…

I will be wearing my new tutu, made by Elaina just for this occasion…it’s not every day that you can wear a lovely tutu…at least not in my world…so I’m excited about that.

Come on out, if you dare~ 7-10 PM~ we will be having snacks, music, and all-you-can-handle shopping…

Orchestration

April 21, 2010

It can be strange and interesting sometimes…how things work out…

Things that, during the day might seem unusual…later make sense…

I was going to do an American Idol post today. Everything yesterday just got a little off. And now it makes sense.

Indigo’s been off of naps for a few weeks, but if he gets in the car at any time in the afternoon, he is OUT. Nate came home yesterday afternoon and on a whim, we went for a drive and looked at motorcycles. Indigo konked out and slept into the evening. In fact, Nate and Greyley went on to choir and we stayed home because he was sleeping so hard.

Indigo and I enjoyed a nice dinner and then we were going to watch American Idol, but couldn’t find the remote for that…it was, however, on a movie that Indigo was able to enjoy…so that worked out pretty nice. I didn’t bother looking for the remote, I decided to just wait until Nate and Greyley got home and we’d watch it together.

By the time they got home, though, it was bedtime and we got the kids to bed. I was unusually tired and fell asleep on the couch while Nate was putting Indie to bed…didn’t see American Idol.

Went to bed around 1:30, thinking I might be too awake to go back to sleep since I’d fallen asleep so early, but no, I went right back out…only to be awakened at 3 by Greyley. She was sick with a migraine and it was pretty bad for several hours. The thought crossed my mind that I was so grateful to have gotten that rest so I could be extra aware and gentle with her…and then I thought of the chain of events of the whole afternoon and evening that made that so…

While she was sick and I was trying to distract her from thinking about her pain and throwing up, I made up a story. It’s something I’ve done many times to get her mind off things. I came up with one that has me excited this morning~ it just might turn into a great story, we’ll see.

Funny how things work out.

She finally slept. Things are better. She woke up just a few minutes ago and thanked me.

“Aw, you’re welcome, Baby…I’m sorry you had such a rough night.”

“Thanks for helping me through it,” she said.

Aw, sweet girl…

I think God helped us both through it.

Blogroll

April 20, 2010

With the help of my computer guru friend, we have figured out how get my blog updated on other blog’s blogrolls…does that sentence make any sense? :)

I’m tired of seeing “Girly Muse~ 4 weeks ago” on my friend’s blogs…it hasn’t been 4 weeks since I’ve written, so it shouldn’t say so!

If you have a Mac, hit the Control and RSS feed emblem at the same time. For those of you who don’t know what the RSS feed emblem is, it’s the little black and white lined symbol by the twitter and facebook symbol. A menu will come up, select “Copy Link Location” and a link will come up. Copy that and replace the old link.

It works! Weeha.

If you don’t have a Mac, right click the RSS feed emblem and do the same as explained above.

I will love you forever if you do this. OK, I’ll love you forever even if you don’t, but I’ll love you a little EXTRA if you do. Thank you very much.

***Thank you, Matt, for the instructional pics! :) ***

Nook

April 20, 2010

Back in September, Greyley and I had one of our Barnes & Noble dates. It’s one of our favorite things to do~ go spend the day at the store, pick out a PILE of books, treats, take them to a table in the cafe (or a comfy chair) and read the day away.

On this particular day, we heard about the Nook. We both fell. Hard. I gave her the little page with all the Nook information and not so subtly told her she could pass along the word that I wanted one. :) She understood.

Well. Guess what I got for my birthday.

Yes! You guessed right!

I LOVE it!!! It’s wonderful. It’s got 950,000+ FREE ebooks on there and you can also order pretty much any book you want and get it within seconds. It’s lightweight, you can change the font sizes and it’s so handy to pull out and catch up right where you left off in your story…it’s wonderful. It’s already been many, many places.

I also got this cute cover to go with it!

There are slots for cards inside, so TECHNICALLY, I could put some cash and my driver’s license in there and GO! Which reminds me, why isn’t there any flat lipstick inventions out there? A flat chapstick would be ideal in my Nook cover. I wouldn’t have to carry anything else! Oh, except for keys…but still!

The Nook will be so fun when it’s time to go on a trip…I always have such a hard time deciding which books should go with me and therefore, I overpack and bring a bunch of books.

I can also SHARE ebooks…so if any of you out there have one of these babies and would like me to lend you an ebook, let me know!

I haven’t even tried listening to music on here yet…I think there are several super cool options on Tessa (that’s what I’ve named her) that I still haven’t even discovered, but so far, I’m digging her!

Sweet Sixteen

April 16, 2010

It has been a slow, peaceful week at our house. We celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary yesterday…enjoyed yet another day of warmth, sunshine and SPRINGY goodness.

We went out for a little while and when Nate told anyone about our anniversary, they said things like, “MAN, that’s LONG!” and “Wow, REALLY?!” like it was a shocking piece of news.

And I guess it is these days.

We’ve had a blessed marriage. For probably the first 12 years, there was not an ounce of turmoil with each other, only outside things that we dealt with together. The last 4 have felt like, “Hmmm, we’re gonna have to fight for this too.” It has felt like every single part of our life~ our home, our children, our family, our health, our finances, and finally, our marriage~ has been hit one by one with everything it’s got.

But here we are. If I could, I’d be sticking my tongue out going, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah. Take that, devil.

Oh, I guess I just did.

I know not to take anything for granted…to enjoy each day…and I know that it’s by the grace of God that I have one single good thing in my life, not to mention MANY good things.

We had a nice day. We went to Minnehaha Falls. It’s a beautiful place that has been around for a LONG time here in the Twin Cities. It was the perfect day for walking around and seeing the pretty view.

See that group of girls to the right of the Falls? The one on the far left? Do you see her? Here, look…

She tried to go all the way around UNDERNEATH the Falls…and FELL…she went sliding down and caught herself before the big drop. She then proceeded to crawl up, laugh hysterically and wash the mud off her arms and legs with bottled water, while I watched with horror at what had just almost happened. She had on flip-flops, for crying out loud.

I might have called her something under my breath, like an idiot, or another bad word, like DUMB or something….

See? I’m rotten.

Nate said it would have been such a cool blog if I’d gotten a picture of her falling.

See? He’s rotten too.

It works.

Anyway.

We had to visit Hiawatha and Minnehaha…do you know the legend?

This statue has been here since 1911. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote The Song of Hiawatha in 1855. There are actually several swirling legends about Hiawatha and Minnehaha, but I like to think they were just two people who loved each other…

He held her tight. She felt safe. They enjoyed the water. The End.

Speaking of enjoyment…we enjoyed Thai food. Yum. And also the movie Date Night. It wasn’t Steve Carrell’s best movie, but I can just see him laugh and think he’s hilarious, so I thought it was funny.

Oh. And we all survived tax day. So, really, we all celebrated a milestone yesterday, right?

Go laugh your head off today. Be silly. Dance a jig. Eat whatever you want for a half hour. :) And love a LOT.
