Sorry, Steelers

February 7, 2011

I have football dyslexia.

It is a condition that I have finally come to terms with~ I look at the screen but the images just don’t register. I look at the screen and the next thing I know, a half hour has passed and I have redecorated my entire house while I’m just sitting there staring.

It really is so, so sad.

However…last night…I think I had a breakthrough…

We went out to our friends’ new place. Rick and Lee moved into a great house and we are so excited for them. The kids played hard and we all went to the “man cave” to watch the game.

Well, I just had no idea. The sheer volume that burst forth out of that cave…who knew?

Let me backtrack just a bit. I really do not care about football. Whatsoever. I’ve tried because my husband likes it, but like I said, the dyslexia…it just does not permit me to fully focus. But when I think about the team spirit~ I do think that’s pretty cool.

Our home team, the Vikings and the Green Bay Packers are longtime rivals. I couldn’t believe Vikings’ fans were so happy to get Brett Favre after he’d been the Packers’ quarterback all those years. It seems fans (some) can tend to be equal parts loyal/fickle when the need arises.

So when it was determined that the Packers were in the Super Bowl with the Steelers, I was shocked to find that most people around here were rooting for the Packers.

What???

I don’t know if it was the man cave or Rick running like mad every time the Packers made a good move (HILARIOUS~ Rick, you are a hoot!)…or the fact that the Steelers gave the Packers a run for their money until the VERY LAST MINUTE (Go, Steelers!)…but I actually focused and cared about the game.

It was a real breakthrough.

Now, don’t count on it to last past the Super Bowl. It was a one time deal and if you missed it, you missed it. With my condition, I’m just happy with the few good football experiences I do have.

Eskimo Mama

January 11, 2011

We got the kids ice skates for Christmas. Greyley has been able to go a couple times with these new skates and loves it. Indigo has gone once and also loves it. I used to love ice skating~ I’ve always loved roller skating much more~ but it seems like for one reason or another, I’ve weaseled my way out of going the last few seasons.

And then our friends asked us skating and Nate brought home these…

Look at those lovely things!

My old skates HURT my feet and after I had Indigo, I wasn’t sure I could ever wear them again. These have furry insides and such pretty etchings. Even the blade is pretty! Thank you, Orville!!!

Last night we went to Centennial Lakes~ if you live in the Twin Cities and have never been, you MUST go. It’s so pretty and the rink goes on and on. You skate past lit trees and under lit bridges. We went with our friends, Jonathan and Anna, who have finally moved back to Minnesota. Welcome home!

Jonathan, Indie, Nate, Greyley, Anna

We took turns holding Indigo up on the ice. By the end of the night, he was vastly improving. He’ll be flying in no time.

Anna, Indigo, Jonathan

Look how pretty Anna is! She’s always so pretty, but notice how even out in the COLD weather, she is still so lovely.

I wish I could be like her.

Greyley and her Eskimo Mother

I was doing good just to be out there, y’all. I don’t know what has happened, but I just seem to not appreciate cold the way I used to. Ahem.

Let me just give you a little rundown of all the clothes I had on…

Tights, leggings, Nate’s wool socks, pants, long-sleeved shirt, wool turtleneck sweater, wool sweater jacket, coat, gloves, mittens, Eskimo covering…

It worked! I was not cold.

Hallelujah!

We had such a great time. I will do it again. I might even invest in prettier gear just to go with these pretty things…

Mmm, Nahhh…

Baseball and Such

July 21, 2010

I did an all-American thing last night. I went to a Twins baseball game.

It was delightful.

I’ll just confess that when my dear friend, Courtney, called yesterday afternoon with an available ticket, I wasn’t jumping up and down to go. I had lots to do and needed to go to choir practice to get ready for a big weekend. I knew it would be so fun to hang out with her, but told her that she should share the ticket with someone who appreciates the sports thing.

She quoted words to my own song, which can be a problem with putting your thoughts, words, songs out there…

“Shake it off and live a little…” she says…

Hmph.

But I did and I’m so very glad.

I went and loved it. Every single thing about it.

It was a GORGEOUS night. We had amazing seats. The only bummer of the night is that we lost by a point…or run…or whatever the correct terminology is for that.

The night started out right, with J.D. Steele singing The Star Spangled Banner.

His brother, Billy, is one of my favorite people on earth. Billy sang “When I Fall in Love” and “Always” at my wedding…but that’s a whole other story.

Look, there’s some stretching going on RIGHT THERE!

Guess what? Courtney’s mom, Pat, won Twingo. (Free ticket to IMAX!) Hello, Miss Twingo!

Pat’s dad and brother played baseball for years, so she is a true fan. She helped me know when to cheer. Thanks, Pat.

And let’s not forget Bob. He is too fun and so sweet.

There were many, MANY laughs (as there always are) with me and Court. We can make each other laugh until we cry and our bellies hurt…OK, there might be some wheezing involved too…

It was great and I needed it in a big way. Thanks so much for the wonderful night. XO
