Be There Or Be A Dork!

May 3, 2012

So much has been happening~ I promise to catch you up very soon. I’ve been out of town, sort of going in a new direction with a couple book-related projects (others’ books, not mine…YET), enjoying this nice weather we’ve been having, getting ready for company (tonight!) to be here for a couple of weeks~Staci Frenes, woohoo!, and working my bohunkus off for the Wild Ruffle Pop Up Shop.

My trip away will get its own post~ it was magical. I desperately needed the break and it was absolutely wonderful.

TONIGHT is the Pop Up Shop! I can hardly believe it’s already here. It seems all good things are happening TONIGHT~ why is it always that way? I’m missing some great things…BUT the place to be is downtown Prior Lake. The cute, quaint shops in downtown Prior Lake~ near the cross point of Hwy 13 and Cty Rd 21~ are partnering with local vendors (that’s me!) for this boutique crawl. If it’s raining, the vendors will be inside the shops. If it’s perfect weather, like yesterday, the vendors will be in front of the shops. Snacks, beverages and fun conversation will be flowing. I know from the last Wild Ruffle Pop Up Shop I was part of, it will all be GOOD STUFF.

Greyley will hopefully be there with me tonight~ she was feeling punky during the night, so I’m not sure what to expect this morning. As I write this, I do hear her rustling around, getting ready for school, so that’s a good sign. Her headbands are kickin’ this time. And I love having her by my side~ we can be nervous, silly geeks together.

My new jewelry is workin’…I know this because I want to keep just about every piece. This is my method of selling~ make what I love and be fine about selling out because I can always make more OR be happy when I don’t sell out because I have a brand new collection of necklaces. I do get attached to some! But, tonight, don’t worry, you’ll be able to pry my fingers off the lovelies when I hand them to you in a nice little drawstring bag. :)

Please come say hi~ I’ll be at Flowers Naturally on Main Avenue.

Click HERE to see all the participating shops and vendors…

Boutique Crawl

April 12, 2012

Three weeks from today~ Thursday, May 3rd from 5:30-9:00 PM~ I will be part of a boutique crawl in downtown Prior Lake. The Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop!

Greyley and I were part of the last Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop and had such a great time that we were excited when Cate invited us again. I wasn’t even sure where Prior Lake was located and found myself pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t too far from my house. The town is so cute and for this next event, the downtown shops are going to be as much a part of the evening as the vendors lining the streets. Hopefully the weather will be perfection and we will make new friends and shop ’til we drop.

I’ll give you a little reminder about it in a couple of weeks. Greyley and I would love to see some familiar faces. We’ve got lots to do between now and then. There’s jewelry and headbands to be made, folks! We both have a good amount of inventory going already, but it seems we always get inspired with some NEW HAREBRAINED IDEAS OF FABULOUSNESS at the very last minute before every new show. What will it be this time? I’m scared to even let my mind go there…but there’s still time…a little bit of precious time…

Cate is featuring us today on her blog for the upcoming event. For more details, you can also check out the Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop Facebook page…and while you’re on Facebook, why don’t you visit my new Girly Muse Facebook page too. Feel free to “LIKE” it! It will come in handy one day, I promise.

Since today seems to be Happy Link Day~ I may as well add a few more, so you can click to your heart’s content. Greyley made it through the first round of speeches at her school for the Optimist International Oratorical Contest. It’s an honor and we’re tickled pink for her. This morning, she will go through another round. As soon as she is finished, we’re off to sing/play with the ABC Youth Choir at Concordia. Tonight, I will be attending the Madame Butterfly Blogger Preview night. Maybe I will see some of you lovely bloggers there.

Have a glorious Thursday. XO

A Cow Horse and Other Interesting Things

November 8, 2011

Hello! It feels like I’ve been gone for ages. I haven’t, it’s just that I’m addicted to my computer and when I take even a short break, it feels like forever. It’s good to be back and the break was great too.

Saturday was so fun. The Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop was a huge success. It stayed busy the entire time…

I put these pictures on Instagram (my latest fun addiction!) and Facebook, so for some of you, this is old hat. ha! But silly me, now that I have this high-falutin’ phone, I can’t seem to remember my trusty camera. (Grr!)

Me and my girl setting up for the show…and look, there’s Elaina on the right!

Our hard work paid off…we had too much stuff! :) Our table was overflowing.

Greyley got new business cards. (Look up just a smidge!) So cute! And speaking of Greyley…her headbands were a HIT. This is the first time she’s sold the headbands at a show (remember the friendship bracelets, collaged vases, fairies and knitted hats?) and everyone LOVED them. It was beyond fun to see her so excited.

She added the feather ones to her collection, which did really great, but she still outsold them by far with the wire headbands.

She’s a bit concerned because we have another show coming up this Saturday~ Rachel’s Holiday Boutique ~ and she sold most of her inventory. I have to get back to work this week too…a good problem to have. Whew. So thankful!

On our way home, we saw a cow horse. It caught us off guard so much, we had to turn the car around to get a better look. Right as I pulled over and snapped the picture, he began moving. So pretty. So freaky. Wish you could see all of him~ it’s the mane that just makes you shake your head and go, “What is wrong with this picture?”

You know…not that actual picture, but…

Ahem, anyway.

While we were out, Nate and Indigo were spending time with Dave/Crockboy, Nate’s best friend since forever.  We haven’t seen Dave and Terri in ages, so it was such a treat to be able to spend the whole day together. Indigo was trailing Dave by the time I got home~ he met a kindred spirit and will be his buddy for life.

We spent time looking at this…

It was so peaceful…so wonderful to be with dear friends. My heart was full. We lingered over the fire, talking and laughing. Greyley did a mean Hula Dancer wobble head impression on a log…you know, the good stuff.

Later, we found a great restaurant~ The Local in Minneapolis~ I want to go back there! The Chicken Curry was delicious. And finally, we ended up at The Dakota where Nate went onstage at midnight (ugh) with Erica West. Such a fun show.

(Billy Franze, Erica West, Kevin Anderson, and Nate)

And hey, we gained an hour.

For such a busy day, my heart felt like it had been on vacation. It was healing, being with such dear friends. To have that time together was such a gift.

Now, onto this week…I always like that first morning after we fall back, but then don’t care for being ready for bed at 8:30 PM the following nights. This week should be interesting. It’s another crazy one. Maybe next week will be calm again. Oh, how I hope. XO

Yippee, it’s almost here!

November 4, 2011

I’ve been out of commission this week, for the most part, putting the finishing touches on my merchandise (that sounds so official!~ I promise my things are way more fun than that stuffy word) for the Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop.

I’ve had this one looking on the whole time…encouraging me.

There are headbands galore~ Greyley is going with me! Woohoo! So far, she has 43 headbands made and I’m sure by tomorrow, she’ll have gotten a few more done. I am so happy to have her with me~ not only is it fun girl time, but she is like my full-sized security blanket. :)

Necklaces are hanging everywhere. There are lots of them that I just want to KEEP, so that’s hopefully a good sign.

The girls are taking over…

A tree here and there…

One more long day of finishing up and I think we’ll be ready for tomorrow! Here’s all the info about the Wild Ruffle Pop-Up Shop again…

Sunny Monday

July 11, 2011

My beloved daughter just left for youth camp. Thanks again to all of you who bought her headbands and helped her get there! We’ve been apart too much this month~ more than we ever have been~ so it was an extra-sentimental parting. I think she might have been rethinking going last night before bed, but when she woke up this morning, she was READY.

This little man beside me is the one who’s REALLY going to have a hard time without his sister. He wouldn’t hug her last night…pretended to be sleeping…but when she went to bed, he started crying and ran upstairs and wouldn’t let go of her. Good-byes went better this morning…I tried to get us out of there in a hurry, for everyone’s sake.

We’ve been having beautiful days and stormy nights. The wind has been 60 miles an hour for the past two nights. It’s been quite exciting. Then, in the morning…gorgeous sunshine and HEAT. I blinked and thought I was back in Arkansas for a second…until I heard there was a heat advisory in Arkansas and that they had us beat by about 10 degrees…

Do you remember when I told you about my Aunt Virginia? Click that link and take a look at her lovely face…it is worth it. Well, she got MARRIED this past weekend!!! We have had more fun teasing her about it. She’s 86…and her new husband is 79. When she called to tell us, I put Nate on the phone because he kept cracking jokes…he told her she’s a cougar and I could hear her laughing through the phone. The jokes just kept coming and what’s so funny about Aunt Virginia is that she does not miss a beat. She gets it all and laughs until she cries. She married a Mr. Hickey…oh yes, you can see the good material with that one…and we wish them the very best.

Can you imagine starting a new life at 86? Doesn’t that just make you stop and ponder for a moment? Aunt Virginia had a beautiful marriage to my Uncle Charlie. They were a couple that were so loving, so sweet…ALWAYS. I never could have imagined either of them with anyone else. He’s been gone for 7 years now and she has suffered and grieved every single day. I am so happy that she’s found joy and that she still wants to find joy at 86. Pretty remarkable.

We introduced the kids to Jerry Lewis last night. Oh, it was fun. They fully appreciated his crazy faces, especially Indigo. We’re going to have to find Cinderfella…that’s one of my favorites. Netflix has a small selection of his films, but it’s a good start. Do you have a Jerry Lewis favorite?

Sorry…I’m all over the place today. My friend, Ashleigh, thinks I have adult ADD. I think she might be right.

Since I’ve covered a variety of topics, I may as well add one more…the crazy cardinal who has been here all spring, banging himself madly into the windows…is STILL WITH US. He bangs every single day, all day long…he starts around 5:50 AM and can go as late as 9:30 PM. If he’s banging in the kitchen and we go in there, he’ll at least move on to the windows in the lower area of the house, so that’s considerate of him. ha. Right now we’re downstairs and he’s banging into the kitchen patio doors. He’s beautiful and crazy, a dangerous combination. On any given day, he drives us a little over the edge. All of us at one time or another have been ready to chase him down and have vicious words…BUT…here we are…cohabiting this space. If I get arrested in the near future for murdering my children’s school mascot, The Cardinal, you’ll have the inside scoop.

I’ll go before I think of 6 other topics that don’t relate.

Book Love and To Market I Go

June 16, 2011

It’s that time again…I’m heading to Dallas for Market. This time will be a little different~ I’m working before it begins and only midway through Market. I have to get back next weekend for the ABCYC Reunion~ weeha!

I’m a little nervous~ I injured my feet the last time I worked Market and it took me four months to recover…am actually still dealing with the issue, although they’re WAY better than they were. Say a prayer for me that my feet will survive. I cannot afford another four months of virtually no exercise, just for one thing…and for another, I like my feet and want to keep them around…with feeling and no scary tingling, preferably. ;)

One dilemma (I was taught to spell it dilemna, but apparently that is wrong. Dilemma sure makes more sense, but that never stopped the English language before…um, I digress.) I have when packing for Dallas or anywhere in the hot and lovely Southern states, is that while it is SO hot outside, it is SO cold INSIDE. I am trying to decide on the perfect little wrap to go with all my outfits so I don’t freeze to death even though it’s 103º outside. I’m thinking my trusty jean jacket might do the trick.

I have my Nook loaded up for the flights~ right now I am reading How To Be Good by Nick Hornby. I really enjoy his writing. He has that British humor that I love. I also have A Visit from the Good Squad by Jennifer Egan, Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella and The D Word by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, to name a few. You can never have too many books. I need something light and fun for a stressful and busy week. These will do the trick.

Speaking of The D Word, Liz and Lisa are the authors that write the blog chicklitisnotdead.com/. It’s a really fun blog that features a variety of female authors and has awesome giveaways. I love reading the 5 Do’s and Do Over Lists of each author featured. Check out their blog. You’ll get hooked AND you’ll win books! I’ve won at least 5 from them…so great!

We’ll be shipping out headbands today. For some of you fine folks, you will be receiving Nate’s packaging/Little Works of Art…hopefully the result will be lovely, non-crushed beauties! I think they will make you smile.

Jacket and Nook, check. Yep, that should do it. If you’re in the Dallas area next week at Market, come say hello. I’ll be in the New Generation showroom. XO

Greyley’s New Venture

June 11, 2011

My girl loves to make things. This makes me so happy. I love to see what she comes up with and it’s been extra fun because so far she’s been really good at whatever she tries.

Her latest venture is funky wire headbands. She loves making them, loves wearing them and people stop her everywhere she goes to find out where she got them. So…she’s beginning to sell them! I thought it would be mostly girls who would flock to buy, but women are loving them too~ especially the flowers.

Greyley is raising money to go to church camp in a few weeks and I thought I’d help her out by putting her headbands on Girly Muse. I’ve wanted to put them on here for a few months just to show what she’s been up to, but now she has a large inventory, so it’s even better timing.

brown/blue swirly band with coppery pink flower~ $5

light brown swirly headband with gold and purple flower~ $5

The next one is the full shebang. She made it for Valentine’s Day and it rocks. It’s got personality. ;)

plum headband with multicolor hearts & sprigs~ $10

I love my girl. She is my Sweet Heart.

The next one is the Original…this beauty started the whole deal. It’s still our favorite.

silver headband with large silver flower~ $6

light brown swirly headband with hot pink & gold heart~ $5

turquoise headband with turquoise & silver flower~ $5

This is not a good angle, not a good hair day, not a good photo. Cute headband! heehee

brown/blue swirly headband with small/quirky pale pink flower~ $5

blue headband with blue & silver star~ $6

grey/brown stripey headband with pale pink flower~ $5

black headband with gold flower~ $5

silver headband with pale pink, teal & hot pink heart~ $6

The next is blurry, but it’s a different star version…

brown/blue swirly headband with blue & silver star~ $6

light brown swirly headband and adorable bronze & hot pink flower~ $5

grey & brown swirly headband with white & hot pink flower~ $5

black headband with yellow flower~ $5

Now, if you’ve made it this long, I apologize for what I’m about to do to you…and my son. Believe me, he did NOT want to do this, BUT…we needed to see a smaller head to show that these headbands fit ALL sizes AND we needed a blondie… :) I am so sorry, son. (He was SUCH a good sport…plus, he just lost his 2nd tooth in a week…nice photo op.)

hot pink headband with hot pink & black flower~ $5

Indigo~ “I don’t like this. I don’t like this.”

Mama~ “You can make whatever gross face you want.”

light brown swirly headband with red & bronze flower~ $5

And a little clearer view…

black headband with black flower~ $5

And last, but not least…another of my favorites…

navy headband with pale green flower & gold sprigs~ $6

Oh, look! We have another blonde contributor~ Jill from Spoils of Wear! She bought a few headbands a while back and you know if she’s wearing a Greyley headband, they’re The Thing To Have!  So cute.

Hope you’ve enjoyed taking a look at these lovely headbands. They are kid tested and mother approved. :) If you see one you’d like, leave a comment and I will email you with details. Thanks!
