Thoughts to ponder this Sunday morning…
Never esteem anything as of advantage to you that will make you break your word or lose your self-respect.
Marcus Aurelius
I was in the studio for about 12 hours yesterday…a super cool studio. It’s called The Library. Our friend, Matt Patrick, owns it and we are recording tracks for the ABC Youth Choir Christmas project. (Insert little dance right here~ I am SO excited to get this music recorded.)
Besides having awesome old/hip furniture and great instruments~ I fell in love with the B3~there are walls and walls of books. I had my very own “Organ Booth” and often got distracted looking over at the book titles. Can you just imagine my glee? And my distraction?
One book that I had to pick up and take over to the couch between moments of playing, listening, and waiting was How Could You Do That?! by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. While I think she has good things to say and the few times I’ve heard her on the radio, I have often agreed with her, I haven’t always agreed with the way she goes about saying it. Like that title, right? Just kind of rubs me the wrong way…but from what I read throughout the day, I found some great quotes, not only from her, but others. And I must say, it was the highly obnoxious title that grabbed my attention in the first place…so she must be onto something.
Shh, I “snuck” the book home with me and will read it here and there. Thanks, Matt P…I’ll return it, no worries. If I didn’t, Dr. Laura would tan my hide. See? How could I DO that?! (I REALLY need to read this book!)
The most important human endeavor is the striving for morality in our actions. Our inner balance, and even our very existence depends on it. Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to our lives.
Albert Einstein
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Here is one more for you…a few lines from the Nobel Prize-winning Indian poet Rabinranath Tagore…
I slept and dreamt that life was Joy.
I woke and saw that life was Duty.
I acted, and behold, Duty was Joy.
While these quotations are profound, they still sound so simple, don’t they? The truth of the matter is, it’s really hard to uphold these truths ALL the time. Our thoughts, for example, can run away from us in ways we don’t want them to…our actions have to be reined in. Habits can be hard to break. Sometimes we need little reminders to work on our character. I’m going to think on these things…
