American Idol~ Songs from the movies with Jamie Foxx…
I remember liking Jamie as a mentor…not sure anyone can compete with Harry Connick, Jr., but I think Jamie is the only one who has ever even come close in the past. We’ll see how he does tonight.
Is he looking like he needs a little nourishment? I believe he needs some food, y’all!
Jamie got right in Lee’s face, didn’t he. I wonder what the breath was like…hopefully some Mentos were in the near vicinity.
Lee~ Here’s the deal with Lee. He can sound SO good…but he can be SO OFF…so close, but just not quite on the right notes. When he hits it, it’s great, but there’s an awful lot of missing pitches in there. I avoid saying, “Pitchy,” because that word is covered on the show, but he really does struggle with it. I’m ready for him to NAIL THOSE NOTES. I’m all for his rising confidence, but want him to be spectacular and that’s maybe never going to happen…for me, anyway.
Michael~ His personal goal is “Top 3.” It seems like he’s struggling with confidence before he sings, hopefully he can let go during the performance. I think the rules should be to never do a Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Michael Jackson song. EVER. I still feel this way, but since he did, we’ll just go with it. I get worried during the first few words, but he surprises me at the end of the verse when he flips up and it’s better. I think it’s okay. I’m a little concerned for him. Funny that the song was from Free Willy.
Apparently, Simon thinks it’s funny that the song came from Free Willy too…funny banter ensues.
Oh, they’re mixing it up~ a duet with Lee & Crystal and it’s one of my favorite songs~ Falling Slowly from the movie Once. Get this, though, I didn’t like it. It felt all over the place. Crystal bugged me and I always like her. The judges love it, even Simon. I must have missed something. Maybe it’s just because I love how the song is already done. It is SO good on the movie.
I do think these two should be the final two, though. I still believe that.
Casey~ I like how he sounds in rehearsal and he wins over Jamie. I like the ukulele. I don’t love his vibrato and I like Lee’s tone better, but I think Casey is a good musician. They tease Kara about the Mrs. Robinson reference. Casey, he’s got some stories up his sleeve, doesn’t he. I personally think they’re going a little far with the whole Kara thing…it’s getting awkward. It did seem like an odd song choice, but I thought he did alright.
I’m not bowled over by this show so far, can you tell? Jamie, either they’re hardly showing you mentoring or you’re not doing much!
Crystal~ She lost her cool in rehearsal. Jamie has to tell her not to cuss on television. Hang in there, Crystal! I get excited about her singing, “I’m Alright.” I like that song. I like Kenny Loggins. But I didn’t like what she did with the song. I know it was her mixing it up, trying to do her own spin…but I actually like the original melody and it just felt like she was trying too hard.
No, Ellen, she did not take that song and make it better. No, Kara. Simon says she’s back in the game. I don’t think she was out of the game, but what is the deal? Do I need to wash my ears out or what???
Casey and Mike~ Oh dear…another song I really like~ Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman? Casey sounds great on the guitar, he really is a great player. I enjoy the song. I really want them to hit that high, “LAST forever”…and it’s the only time they faltered, but I still enjoyed them together.
I agree with the judges that the duets are better than all the solos.
Weird night for me.
I think either Casey or Michael will go…and I don’t really mind which one. How about you? Who do you think will be kicked off?
I probably won’t post about the results show tomorrow…unless I just can’t help myself because it’s such a phenomenal show…
