I asked Greyley a while back to come up with a list of her favorite books. It’s hard for her to pick favorites, but these are some that she especially enjoys. Once she got started, she had a hard time stopping. The girl has read LOTS of books!!! Thanks for sharing with us, Greyley! 🙂
These are some of my favorite books…
The Ramona series by Beverly Cleary (8 books, I think)~ These books are really funny. I like them because of all the things that Ramona does~ she does some pretty crazy things. One time she tried to run away and her mom helped her pack. Then she made the suitcase too heavy, so Ramona couldn’t go away. And one time Ramona decided she was going to say a bad word, so she said “Guts” a bunch of times.
Lunch Money by Andrew Clements~ It’s about a boy named Greg and he likes making money. He makes these mini comic books named, “Chunky Comics.” A girl named Maura also has a comic book about princesses and unicorns. They try to sell the comics at school and end up having a workshop at school where they create comics that are non-violent. Greg and Maura become good friends…
Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix~ This is like the story of Cinderella, only all mixed around…Ella goes to meet the prince and she finds out that she really likes a guy named Jeb. She talks to the prince and they get into a fight and he throws her into the dungeon. She digs through the floor and finds Jeb…it’s really good.
Palace of Mirrors by Margaret Peterson Haddix~ This is kind of the sequel to Just Ella, but mostly about a different girl. It’s really exciting, even though it’s about princesses. Cecilia and her friend, Harper, go to the Palace of Mirrors to tell Desmia that Cecilia is the real princess. Desmia locks Cecilia in the tower. Turns out the real princess died as a baby and thirteen orphans were sent away to be raised as princesses so they could all rule one day.
A Wrinkle In Time series by Madeleine L’Engle~ They’re really interesting and they have bits about science and space in them. My favorite book in the series is Many Waters. It’s about the twins and they go back to the time of Noah and the Flood and they have to figure how to get back to the present before the Flood hits…
Starring Sally J Freedman as Herself by Judy Blume~ It’s about a girl named Sally who goes to live in Florida. Her brother has a kidney infection and needs the sunshine, so they move to Florida. Sally thinks a guy in her apartment, Mr. Zavodsky, is really Hitler. She makes up a lot of stories in her head. She’s trying to make friends. She calls her dad “Doey Bird.” She’s really funny.
Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix (The 5th Harry Potter Book) by J. K. Rowling~ This one is really exciting because it’s when they break into the Ministry of Magic. I’ve read all the Harry Potter books twice each. They’re all good.
The Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix~ I’ve liked all the books I’ve read of hers…This series is about a place where people can only have two children. There’s the Population Police who go to get all the third children. The books are about all the third children who are living in secret. They’re hiding and trying to be set free. Some of them try to work for the Population Police to be on the “inside.” It’s exciting.
Araminta Spookie series by Angie Sage~ This is about a girl with a strange family. Her uncle Drac lives in a mansion that looks like a haunted house. It’s really, really funny. A girl named Wanda~ her family wants to buy the house. So Araminta starts doing crazy things to scare Wanda’s family away, but it turns out Wanda’s family thinks all the crazy things are the perfect thing for them. They’re wizards. Wanda and her family end up living in the mansion because it’s so big. Araminta and Wanda become best friends.
The Anybodies series by N. E. Bode~ It’s about a girl named Fern and her mother died while giving birth to her. It turns out she’s not really the drudger’s daughter. She’s really an “Anybody.” She can shake stuff out of books and transform things. She has all kinds of adventures.
