Summer Road Trip Part 1

August 30, 2013

Want to go on a road trip? Like, a really totally LONG road trip?

Okay, let’s get started…

Minnesota to somewhere in Nebraska…stayed in a hotel that looked awful on the outside, but was actually quite shocking inside. Great place. Ramada, I think. There was an indoor tiki hut courtyard. I know, it can’t be explained. But what really caught my eye was the sign in front of the (truly) fabulous pool.

Sometimes you just have to spell things out, I guess.

It was bliss when we found this train out in the middle of nowhere…in Wyoming. There was also the nicest log cabin Subway I have ever seen. If that and the Walmart hadn’t been there, I would have expected Tonto to come out at any moment.

It was beautiful in Wyoming and Nevada, but crossing into California…it really is something special. And we were so happy to FINALLY be in CALIFORNIA!!! (Insert wild dancing here!)

We made it to our dear friend Staci’s house after two days on the road. She promptly fed us and took us over to her mom’s house to swim. The kids needed it! There also happened to be a scooter that Indigo became instantly attached to…

Went to San Francisco…I’ve wanted to take the kids there for such a long time. I have so many great memories there with my family and friends…Nate and I have so many great memories there too. So I had a perma-grin that whole day. We rode the BART.
Indie took this shot…

We rode the cable car…Stace took this one. Wish she was in the picture instead of Poser Dude.

It seems we adopted a new family member for the picture. ^

Found some minions.

Dreams were fulfilled.

Serious dreams.

I found my place.

Died over this…

Enjoyed the beauty. Healed my insides to see the beauty.

To be continued…

We know that place in Nebraska… were in Kearney. My cousin lives just outside of Kearney in a town called Axtel. We attempted to stay at that hotel, but the band used pirotonic(sp) & the hotel caught on fire & we had to be taken out by the fireman. Nate had an asthma attack & we had to move to a different hotel with no clothes because everything stunk like smoke. So off we went the next day to buy new clothes along with the other 60 family members that my cousin had staying there for her son’s grad party. OH how we will never forget that place!!

Oh my word, Theresa-what a story! You know it VERY well. 🙂 and good to know it’s Kearney. I’ve been regretting not writing it down.

SF! my old hood. Memories. I used to walk by the Ghiradelli building everyday on my way to work. I loved that walk and the views I got to see. I miss my old apt, my friends, and that life of being in my 20s with little care in the world. Those pre 9/11 days were wonderful. 🙂 I also did that roadtrip on my move back to the bay area from Minneapolis. It wasn’t so nice for me as I had a huge snowstorm/blizzard to drive through in Wyoming and Utah, but I had my kitty Piper with me and we made it into an adventure. I love being on the road in the middle of the USA–lost somewhere no one can find me, yet still connected with a cell phone and facebook. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

    Thank you, Savita! xoxoxo

Elizabeth! Such fun times. Sounds like you were in a prime spot. I don’t envy you that drive in the winter blizzard, though. That would take ALL the joy out of it. 🙂

  8. What a cool trip, can’t wait to read more! We ate at your diner last summer while we were in San Francisco 😉
