There is a saying that goes something like this…
Every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway…
I wish I knew who said that…I would give them credit.
I do so enjoy fashion. I like mixing it up and feel like my style is ever-evolving…and that’s the way I like it. I don’t enjoy shopping as much as you might think I would…in fact, I hardly ever go shopping. However, when I do, watch out. I can make up for all the barren months with one good trip to TJ Maxx.
Do you know who I believe we have to thank for the glorious clothes that decorate our bodies each day? The silks, the linens, the cashmere sweaters, the soft and fuzzy robes…even the heavenly socks, as I like to call them~ you know, those softer than imaginable socks that when you put them on, your eyes roll back in your head, SOCKS. Do you know the kind I’m talking about? If not, let me know and I’ll get them for you for Christmas.
I saw a movie over the weekend with my bud, Tosh…Coco Before Chanel. It was a very interesting movie based on the life of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. It was in subtitles, but that didn’t stop us. We really enjoyed the movie. Chanel really was instrumental in changing fashion for women~ most notably, she did NOT believe in corsets. Thank you for that, Coco.
But no, it’s not Chanel that I think about…it goes back even before her…and she was great, that’s for sure…but the person I’m thinking about was around long before that. She was the very first woman to ever exist…
Eve.
Have you thought about what it would be like if Eve hadn’t been deceived by the serpent? If Adam and Eve had not eaten the fruit?
Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Now, can I hear an “Amen” for Eve! Amen!
If it hadn’t been for Eve, we’d still be running around naked! I, for one, am not comfortable with that…you know, outside my own home and all. I happen to be grateful for clothes to cover this rapidly aging body…not that I would be any more inclined to run around naked with a young body. Cute clothes are even better, but in a pickle, I’d take any!
Ah, Eve, our first seamstress. Granted, she sewed in a hurry and only managed fig leaves, but I’m thinking she must have progressed quickly to other fashionable designs. I’d like to see what all she came up with, wouldn’t you…
She just doesn’t seem like someone who would do things halfway, so I imagine she made leaf kimonos, leaf sarongs, leaf tutus, leaf sweater sets, leaf button-down shirts and whatnot. That Eve. She didn’t even know what all she was starting when she began weaving together those leaves, did she?
Thanks, Eve, for putting fashion on the map. I don’t think you’ve gotten nearly an ounce of the credit you deserve.
