So I live in Minnesota: home of 10,000 lakes, hot dish, fabulous summers, even better people, Mall of America, and…SNOW. We have a good foot going on right outside my door, as I write.
Now what this means for a California girl like me (I grew up there, as well as in the South) is that I have had to get a significant amount of hutzpah, shall we say…to live here. It’s 1 degree here today, my friends…1 degree. And it’s only January, only the beginning…
Here’s what is GOOD about the cold:
You can wear all kinds of cute accessories. My fave purchase this year is my green and black striped gloves that go up to my elbow and have buttons all the way up the side.
You can make snow ice cream. Ingredients: Fresh snow, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.
You can have a luge right outside your kitchen door. And I have one, indeed I do. If I want, I can hop on a tube at the top and go almost all the way to the barn. (There are barns in Minnesota too. Cool, huh.)
You can have icicles grow right off your body if you time it just right. The cold loves nose hairs in particular.
You don’t have to feel guilty for drinking endless cups of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
And that brings me to my next one…You need at LEAST a good 15 pounds more than your normal weight on you. For some padding. A little insulation. So this time of year is perfect. I can eat with abandon because I know I have to go outside sometime today.
