Yesterday was spent doing one of my very favorite things in the whole world…doing BGVS. I absolutely LOVE singing background vocals. I love everything about it. The challenge of coming up with cool parts, doing different harmonies, changing my voice up to match someone else’s, coloring the blend with my voice…just everything about it is fun for me.
Plus, I got to sing in a new pinky/red microphone. What could be better?
Sara Renner is coming out with a new project soon and it’s going to be AWESOME. For those of you who haven’t heard Sara Renner, you need to jump on ship and buy all her music. This will be the third CD Nate has produced for her and each recording just keeps getting better and better.
Sara is the Minnesota Wild anthem singer, just for one super cool thing. She has been doing music since she was a little girl. She’s a cancer survivor. And the girl can sing.
Nate is known for producing folk artists. He does it so well, but Sara Renner is far from folk. She does a little bit of that too, but there’s still a soulful flavor in there. Now, I love me some folk, but as far as what I’m drawn to…give me something with funk. The tracks will make you MOVE. Soul Grooves, watch OUT.
Sara’s last project, Elements of the Journey, has some of my original songs, which totally made my LIFE. I was already a huge fan of hers and when she wanted to record two of my songs, I thought I could just die happy, right then and there.
She’s a nice girl, too, which really helps. When Nate comes home from work happy and peaceful, I tend to like the artists he’s working with a whole lot more. Is that OK to say?
I haven’t delved into all the intricacies of the Musician’s Mind…I’ve got dirt, folks; I’ve got a lot of dirt. But I will just leave it at that for now. Ha. All of my musician friends reading this are going to be worried now. Don’t be. Your secrets are safe with me. Let’s just say, musicians are a tricky lot. I know, I am one.
You know I haven’t pushed a lot of music down your throat…I’ve been almost hesitant to even talk about the musical side of my life. For several reasons…but it’s such a huge part of my life that I hope you don’t mind hearing about it sometimes. And there are certain people that I just have to share with you.
Independent artists have a hard way to go~ so much responsibility hangs on their shoulders. It is really hard to get your music heard if you don’t have a big label putting your stuff out there and labels come with really big conditions. We love supporting the Indie artists who come our way. Some of them are talented way beyond anything you’ll hear on your local radio station and some will never be heard unless we (you and me!) spread the word. The best way to support them is to buy their music and tell all your friends about them. Invite them to perform at your church, local coffee shop, or a house concert. Buy their CDs as gifts…etc.
So give Sara a good listen. The little snippets on the website just leave you wanting way more, so you might just have to take my word for it and snatch it up. It’s great music. I’m singing on there~ that should be enough for you Girly Muse fans. 🙂 And when her new CD comes out, you’ll hear the news here first thing.
