The boys and I spent the day at Ikea yesterday. If you’re needing to get overwhelmed by home furnishings, textiles, home organization, lighting, and kitchen gear, just go to Ikea. Or maybe you need a new bed or office furniture? A rug? Curtains? A new bathroom sink?
I just thought I knew what I wanted. An hour later and I’m looking at items I didn’t even need. I went in wanting to see chairs, curtains, and pillows and walked out with a cutting board. !!!????
So is the charm of Ikea.
I tell you what else is charming…the Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, and lingonberry jam, that’s what. It is some kind of delicious. That and the fact that everywhere you look there are Swedish people. I felt like I was smack dab in the middle of Sweden. It made me want to put on a brightly colored sweater and round my O’s.
I don’t know why, but it did.
I’m working on The Cozy Daisy…for those of you who haven’t been reading this blog for very long, my daughter, Greyley, named all our rooms when we moved into our house and our den is The Cozy Daisy. It is the wonderful space that we LIVE in…we spend most of our time in The Cozy Daisy and it is where company stays when they come to see us. (Actually the sun room portion of The Cozy Daisy is where people stay…) It’s been in major rehaul mode over the last few weeks. I hinted briefly to the couch debacle…we’ve had a gaping hole for almost two weeks where a couch was supposed to be.
You’ll be happy to know that the new couch finally arrived on Saturday. And. It. Is. Fabulous.
This was not a minor addition. It’s been a big deal. We moved the old couch and bookshelf to our bedroom. (Up two small sets of stairs and some curves.) My desk area that had a desk, hutch and bookshelf was all moved to the sun room side of the room. So all that was really left in the large room was a honking TV…and lots and lots of floor space. And blank walls.
Simply put, The Cozy Daisy lost some of its Cozy.
So I’m working hard to get that back in place.
The couch is lovely. It’s big. It’s leather. And it needs some Cozy. In a week or two, when the pieces are in place, I’ll put pictures up of the New & Improved Cozy Daisy…however…I didn’t get pictures of the OLD Cozy Daisy, so you’ll just have to imagine that it’s better if you’ve never seen it in the flaysh. (That’s Southern for flesh.)
Because there’s no way Nate and I can move the old couch back downstairs.
We almost lost our religion moving it up the first time. That thing is going to stay put for a good long while.
The Ikea trip was not all for naught, however…we came home with 3 boxes of Anna’s Ginger Thins. The Original, of course.
I’d recommend making a trip to Ikea just for the Ginger Thins. Who needs a couch when you can have such delicious cookies? At 99 cents per box, you could buy quite a few before the guilt threatened to overtake you.
So that’s exactly what I did.
Turns out I may have to go somewhere less distracting to actually find pillows, chairs, or curtains…otherwise, I’ll walk out with a potted plant and Christmas ornaments…or some other such bizarre combination…and a lifetime supply of Anna’s Ginger Thins.
